About Us
“MAHARASHTRA: Unveiling the Hidden Tapestry of Progress”
The mere mention of Maharashtra conjures images of prosperity – expansive roads, affluent individuals, and the accolade of being the highest GDP state in India. However, beneath this veneer lies a concealed narrative, epitomized by Osmanabad (now Dharashiv) – a district that found itself in the unenviable position of being the third-last in NITI Ayog’s development index, not just in Maharashtra but across the entire country.
Enter OSLA – Oasis Ladies, Dharashiv district. Born out of the crucible of the COVID epidemic, OSLA represents the collective effort of four remarkable women determined to alter the trajectory of their community. Kiran Deshmane, Shashanki Sangve, Supriya Dudhbhate, and Anar Salunke envisioned a self-sustainable marketplace to empower women entrepreneurs and uplift the entire district’s output.
Dharashiv, nestled in Marathwada, Maharashtra, faced unprecedented challenges during the COVID epidemic. Small traders shuttered their shops, jobs were lost, and families grappled with both economic hardships and health crises. It was in this dire situation that Kiran, Shashanki, Supriya, and Anar initiated a brainstorming session, inspired by the success of PULA, a similar group in Pune.
They aptly named their initiative OSLA, Osmanabad Ladies, and quickly established guidelines. Operating initially through a WhatsApp group, each day of the week was dedicated to specific products and services, fostering a community of sellers and consumers.
Kiran, the dynamic Prime Minister, spearheads public interactions and execution, while Supriya leads the marketing efforts. Dr. Anar Salunke, as the wise president, provides invaluable judgment and approvals, and Engineer Shashanki handles the tech and design aspects. OSLA has grown to include numerous honorary members, all contributing their time and energy to the cause.
During the devastating second wave of COVID, OSLA provided a lifeline. Members showcased their skills, from making traditional snacks to offering tiffins for families affected by the pandemic. The organization expanded rapidly, featuring a diverse array of talents, from cake-making to trading.
Beyond commerce, OSLA shares informative videos by women professionals, addressing health and motivational aspects. Cultural events like Dandiya Night and ‘OSLA Jallosh’ dance competition add a vibrant touch, complemented by online competitions, fostering a sense of community and discipline.
The sellers are acknowledged with certificates, and strict discipline is maintained in their advertising practices. Shashanki ensures the smooth operation of these certificates, and all events are supported by voluntary sponsors.
As OSLA looks to the future, with plans to create small groups of skilled women for economically feasible activities, it marks a remarkable start towards empowering all women in the district. Despite being a distance away from their ambitious goal, OSLA stands as a beacon of hope, connecting with markets, creating more output, and leaving an indelible mark on Osmanabad’s narrative.
Here’s wishing OSLA continued success in their future endeavors.
